Greetings my fellow cyclists and club members. June was a good month for riding and it included our Peninsula Metric Century Ride. I was so pleased to see so many of you trying the 60 mile route and stopping by for Round Table Pizza.
The June Club meeting includes elections. Because there was no competition, your current Board members agreed to stay on another year. We are so grateful for their service to the club. We are still looking for a Secretary and Director of Special Events as well as several appointive positions.
Charlene and I flew to Ireland to ride with the Bicycle Adventure Club. Our two week excursion was put on by the Iron Donkey company. In Ireland people rode donkeys until the bicycle was developed. We were on the Wild Atlantic Coast and had just two days of rain, but plenty of wind. The grades were more than advertised. With the headwinds, we wished we had reserved rental Ebikes. The narrow backroads with sheep on the roads was a real treat.
On July 11, we have the Tour de Pierce where we ride from Fat Zach's Pizza on STP day. Several club members including Harlan, Ralph and David may be spotted as we ride up the West Valley Highway from Sumner. There will be three choices for distance. You can ride a short 7 mile loop mostly on trail, sidewalks and quiet roads for folks with small children. We have a 20 mile loop on trails and quiet roads. For the adventurous riders we have up to 50 miles where we include the Foothills Trail up to South Prairie. You can also turn back anywhere along the trail. You can sign up on our website twbc.org.
The Board also meets on Tuesday July 14 so you can attend if you have concerns or interest. The famous Ride Around Clark County is on July 25. There may be a Tour de Donut ride on July 26 put on by our friends at 2nd Cycle.
On August 3, we have Ashford Bicycle Week at the DNR Sahara Creek Horse Camp. We have a reserved campground area, but you need a Discover Pass. One member plans to ride from home. We will probably ride into the National Park from a back road, ride to Packwood and have some gravel roads available like Silver Creek Pass. One can also stay in nearby lodging. You can also bring your horse.
On August 30, there may be a Cycling Over 60 Event on the Foothills Trail.
I hope you can come out on our weekly rides or our special events this summer.
