The Tacoma Washington Bicycle Club is a valuable partner in helping grow the local Cycling Over Sixty community and there is an event this spring that is another opportunity to showcase what we're building together. The more riders we have, the stronger our message becomes about the vitality and joy of cycling at any age.
Save the Date: May 2, 2026
Cycling Over Sixty is gearing up for the American Diabetes Association's (ADA) Tour de Cure on May 2nd, and we're inviting Tacoma Washington Bicycle Club members to join us. This isn't just another ride – it's a celebration of cycling later in life and a chance to make a real difference in the fight against diabetes.
Why Join Now?
While May might seem distant, there's good reason to commit early. Here's what makes this opportunity special:
Free Team Jerseys!
Thanks to our awesome jersey sponsor, Konvergent Wealth in Gig Harbor, the first 50 team members who qualify for the ride will receive a free Cycling Over Sixty jersey. These jerseys aren't just about looking good (though we will!) – they're about making a statement. When our team rides together we send a powerful message: cycling has no expiration date. We want everyone to see that cycling later in life isn't just possible – it's thriving!
To ensure everyone gets their jersey in time, I need to place orders well before May, which means the sooner you commit, the better.
More Than Just a Ride
For more than 30 years, The Tour de Cure has served as the signature fundraising event for the ADA, with every dollar raised going directly to support their mission to end diabetes. By joining our team, you're not just participating in what I believe will be a fantastic party to launch the summer cycling season – you're contributing to a vital cause. Diabetes affects nearly 40 million US residents, including me.
To qualify for the ride, participants need to raise $250 in donations. Don't let this intimidate you – I'll be working hard to help every team member reach this goal. We're in this together!

Let's Make This Memorable
I truly believe this is going to be a fun and rewarding experience for everyone involved. There's something special about riding with a purpose, surrounded by friends who share our passion for cycling. The Tour de Cure gives us the perfect opportunity to combine our love of riding with making a positive impact in our community.
Join us as we show everyone that cycling over sixty isn't about slowing down – it's about riding strong, giving back, and having a great time doing it.
