July has been a good month for us with lots of people out on our weekly rides. The Tour de Pierce went well with over 40 people including a family riding our shorter route and having a great time.
I had time to ride my mountain bike from Wilkeson to Carbonado to Melmont. A friend sent me a map of early Melmont and I discovered there was a small bridge across the Carbon River. Perhaps the WSDOT’s team could build us a bike pedestrian bridge while we wait for a new car bridge to get to Mt Rainier National Park.
The first week of August is Ashford Bicycle Week at Sahara Creek Horse Camp. We will be doing at least three rides and one day of trail cleanup. Feel free to stop by and camp for a few days.
Cycling over Sixty has their ride on Sunday August 30 so feel free to sign up on our website. Tom Butler will lead us.
Charlene Dorward helped me make two routes for the Headwaters Century on Saturday September 12. The longer 101Km route goes to Black Diamond and the Green River Gorge from Orting. The shorter 64Km goes to Auburn and takes the Interurban Trail back to Orting. There will be Pizza at Route 66.
Tom Butler and others are working to increase our Corps of Volunteers. We really need a reliable Weekend ride or two led by volunteers. We also need an after work ride or two for the nicer weather months. Please feel free to contact our Ride Captain Rick Dincola. We could also benefit by having a weekend overnight ride or two and a week long trip. I once led a trip from Tacoma to Klamath Falls returning by train. It takes some planning but we had a great memorable adventure.
