2nd Cycle Call for Volunteers - Shitty Gritty

Our friends at 2nd Cycle put out the following call for volunteers. Whenever we support 2nd Cycle we are building the local cycling community.

Shitty Gritty Alleycat – Volunteer Call

Shitty Gritty is a community-focused alleycat-style bike event hosted by 2nd Cycle. The goal is to get people out riding during a time of year when many struggle to stay motivated, while also encouraging riders to explore parts of Tacoma they might not normally visit or might find more challenging to reach by bike.  Here is a link to the web page I created for the event. Shitty Gritty Webpage

The event aligns with 2nd Cycle’s mission to increase access to bicycling, build confidence, and strengthen community through riding. Shitty Gritty emphasizes participation, exploration, and fun over competition, and helps raise awareness about how people can move through the city by bike in creative and unexpected ways.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help make the event happen:

  • Race Day Volunteer Positions
  • Checkpoint Leader (12:45–3:45 PM)
    • Five volunteers needed
      • Host one of six checkpoints, engage with riders, and help keep checkpoint operations running smoothly.
  • Checkpoint Helper (12:45–3:45 PM)
    • At least five volunteers needed
      • Support checkpoint leaders and cheer on riders as they arrive and complete checkpoint activities.
  • Behind-the-Scenes Support
  • Help Promote the Event
    • Distribute posters and flyers around Tacoma and share event details through your networks.
  • Day-of Registration Assistance
    • Help check in riders, distribute manifests, and answer questions.
  • Finish Line Support
    • Assist with collecting rider manifests, organizing finish-line activities, and preparing for the after-party and prize distribution.
  • Sponsorship and Prizes
    • Help secure sponsors and gather prizes to support the event.

We’re also open to creative ideas and additional ways people might want to contribute.
