Hi TWBC Members,
Here's a great opportunity to advocate for better bike infrastructure while enjoying a casual ride through downtown Tacoma.
Downtown On the Go Annual Bike Ride with Elected Officials
Thursday, September 11th, 5-7 PM
Starting and ending at Tacoma City Hall (747 Market Street)
From Downtown on the Go: "This is a ~5 mile conversation-pace ride (no drop!) where we'll explore new infrastructure and discuss what's working, what's missing, and what Tacoma's bike network could become. City council members and staff will be riding along, giving us a direct line to decision-makers about the infrastructure we need."
As TWBC members, we know how valuable these face-to-face conversations can be. The J Street Neighborhood Greenway project is a perfect example of what's possible when we come together to show officials that bike-friendly infrastructure matters to real people.
With Tacoma facing tough funding decisions about infrastructure, it's especially important that city officials see the wide variety of residents who value and rely on safe streets for cycling. A strong turnout from our club would send a great message.
Details:
Helmet and waiver required
Expect some hills (taken slowly)
Our friends at 2nd Cycle are helping make this happen
Many of you might ride to City Hall, which is perfect - it demonstrates exactly the kind of transportation choice we're advocating for.
Please register directly with Downtown On the Go - I'm hoping for a great TWBC showing to demonstrate that cycling is valued by Tacoma residents across all ages and backgrounds.
Let's make this a well-attended ride that gets our voices
heard! And let's show up in TWBC jerseys if you have one.
