TWBC Tech Update: Club Rides Are Now Managed in Strava

We’re making some behind-the-scenes changes to how we manage TWBC Club Rides, and we want to keep you in the loop.

Starting this summer, Club Rides are managed through Strava Group Events. That means if you want to sign up for a ride, all you need to do is:

✅ Go to the TWBC Club Page on Strava
✅ Navigate to the Events tab
✅ Click into the upcoming ride you’re interested in
✅ Click “I’m In” to RSVP

That’s it — you’re registered!

Why the Change?

We made this shift for a few key reasons:

  • It’s freeStrava Group Events are available to all users, no subscription required.
  • It builds communityYou can see who else is going, comment, and even connect before the ride.
  • It simplifies planningNo more managing separate forms or email confirmations.
  • It’s visibleAll rides are listed on our TWBC Strava Club page, and we’ve also integrated them into our website.

What About the Google Calendar?

We’ve still got you covered! All TWBC rides are also listed in our Club Rides Google Calendar, embedded right on the Rides & Events page.

  • The calendar includes richer descriptions (Google supports bold text, links, and more)

  • The Register Now link in each calendar entry points to the correct Strava Event

You don’t have to use the calendar, but it’s a helpful option — especially if you prefer longer descriptions or syncing events to your own calendar.

A Few Limitations with Strava Events

While Strava is a great tool overall, there are a few quirks to be aware of:

  • You can only RSVP to the next upcoming instance of a recurring ride — not future weeks

  • Once a ride starts, the event disappears from the Strava Club page (you can’t go back and review it afterward)

We’re hoping Strava improves this over time, but for now, just keep in mind:

  • You’ll need to sign up week-by-week

  • Use the Google Calendar to browse future dates or view ride details

More to Come

This is the first of several improvements we’re making to club technology, and we’ll be sharing more in future Tech Updates.
