We did make it to the Club meeting just in time for elections. Tom Butler and David Wittenberg reported on their visit to Elisio Retirement home where they have several tandem bikes for taking out residents. The Sequim Wheelers have 50 volunteers who take Retirement home folks out several times a week.
Regarding elections Sue Nicholson declined to run for secretary for the third time. We really appreciate Sue's service as she has helped with our booth at several venues including the Bike Swap. We have two new Officers. Rick Dincola is trying Ride Captain and Tom Butler is trying Director of Community and Government Relations. We need a new Secretary and a Special Events Coordinator. We could also benefit by having a Membership volunteer.
Charlene and I attended a Hub and Spoke Week in Comox on Vancouver Island. The CCCTS club had over 70 riders and 30 volunteers. Then we went to Ucluelet to ride the trail towards Tofino. Then we went to Sooke and checked out the Galloping Goose Trail. Our club used to arrive in Port Angeles and take the ferry to Victoria where they cycled to Sooke. We could use a volunteer to make that ride happen again.
We missed the Grand Opening for the County’s Tacoma Water Pipeline Trail to Orange Gate Park. I will be trying to lead a ride on the Tacoma Water Flume Line Trail to the Pipeline Trail on Pierce County Trails Day. Dr. Ernest C Bay and I started advocating for the Pipeline Trail 28 years ago. It takes a long time and persistent to get Trails and bike lanes accomplished around here. We support ForeverGreenTrails to help move forward. You can help by joining or donating.
The Bike Jerseys you ordered are shipping on July 3. They should arrive just in time for the Tour de Pierce on July 12. Charlene and I are modifying the route because there is a four year Trail segment closure on the Sumner Link. You can still have free Pizza and wave at the STP riders on the West Valley Highway.
We still hope to ride over the Spiketon Ditch Bridge before the rain starts in September.
If you are a working person, I encourage you to try the Tuesday Night Rides.
Please be safe out there and enjoy the Summer riding.
