In the summer of 2020, Harlan Hodge launched "Black People Bike" to combat isolation during the pandemic. This group, which started as a family ride, quickly grew to over 100 cyclists, predominantly African-American, who ride through St. Louis every Sunday. The group promotes inclusivity and health, organizing regular rides and events to foster community and well-being.
Similarly, "Regulators Cycling Club," founded in 2013 by LaMont Gordon, saw a resurgence during the pandemic. The club, focused on road cycling, now boasts over 280 members. While it welcomes cyclists of all backgrounds, it aims to provide a supportive and educational environment, encouraging better health through cycling.
These groups demonstrate how cycling can build community and promote health, offering a welcoming space for cyclists of all levels in St. Louis.
