Demystify Your Ride: Bike & Everyday Science Series #1, September 20th

Ever wonder why low gears feel "easier," or how your brake pads actually bring you to a stop? Your bike runs on physics you already understand — you just may not have connected the dots yet. This Sunday our friends at 2nd Cycle are putting their scientist hats on and providing a free community workshop.

Check out the Bike and Everyday Science Series #1: Mechanical Science Focus, a free four-hour workshop pairing basic physics with hands-on repair mentorship. It's supported in part by Tacoma Creates, a program of the City of Tacoma.

  • Date & Time: Sunday, September 20, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Location: 2nd Cycle, 1205 MLK Jr. Way
  • Cost: Free
  • RSVP: Drop in — open to all ages and skill levels

Expect a hands-on look at the friction, leverage, and tension that make your bike work, plus a walkthrough of the 60-second "ABC Quick Check" you can use before every ride. Mentors will be on hand to help diagnose real bikes brought in by attendees. Snacks and visual guides provided.

Whether you're a longtime TWBC member who's always looking for more information about bikes, or someone newer to riding who wants to understand what's happening under you, this is a low-pressure way to get more comfortable with your bike before your next ride.

Swing by this Sunday — no registration needed, just show up.
