President's Report for March

Greetings Fellow Cyclists.   February had lots of good days to get out riding if you were properly dressed as it was cold at times.

The Seattle Bike Swap was in early February.   The State Legislature has been in session and several TWBC members have been participating.  The session will be over soon and Washington Bikes will report on results important to us.  One big topic is banning Emoto high speed Bikes from our trails.

Charlene and I attended the British Columbia Bike and Outdoor Show on February 28.  We found some new ideas for bike travel in Washington, Oregon and Idaho as well as British Columbia and International travel.   There was a test track for Ebikes and a track for young kids to practice.

You probably know the big Carbon River Arched bridge is closed and Wilkeson businesses are suffering.   If you can cycle there, it would be helpful to stay for lunch.  If you have a mountain bike you can ride up the trail to Carbonado and take the highway back down.  If you have a gravel bike you can park in Carbonado and ride four miles to a two mile hike a bike to the Kolish Road Bridge and access the paved roads to the Carbon River Ipsut Campground Entrance.  A longer ride is there to Mowich Lake at Mount Rainier National Park.

Tom Butler is working on a grant application to AARP called CAAN or Cycling for Active Aging Network.  Tom hopes to gain more TWBC members and bring the joy of cycling for health to more people.

The Shitty Gritty bike ride was on March 1 to encourage more Cyclists and to raise funds for our partner 2nd Cycle.   Our partner Foothills Rails to Trails Coalition will have a event called Spring into Trails on Thursday, March 26 at 5pm in Buckley.  You could ride your bike before the event.

In April,  we have our Daffodil Classic Bike Ride with free pizza.  There will be a fundraiser dinner in Buckley to raise funds for the Wilkeson Historical Society.  It is on Saturday,  April 18 at 5:30 pm at the Eagles hall.  On April 25, we have the Bike Swap at Tacoma Community College.  Some of us will attend the McClinchy  Mile in Stanwood and ride around Camano Island.

There are many more events and activities coming during the warm Spring and summer months including our Ashford Bicycle Week Festival the first week of August.

As always,  keep the rubber side down and I hope to see you on the road or trail.
