Greetings Fellow Cyclists and Club Members:
April was a good month for us. We have set up an online store until May 15 so you can order jerseys and shorts.
We put on the Daffodil Classic Bike Ride early on April 5 so it was same day as the Parade. The good weather brought out over 40 people and several new members. After the ride we met at Route 66 for free pizza.
At our April 8 Club meeting, Tom Butler told us about his Podcast, Cycling over 60. He has produced over 100 episodes. Tom lives in Enumclaw and will be joining us for rides this Summer. Tom is interested in working with 2nd Cycle and us to get more Senior people out riding their bikes.
The Bike Swap happened on April 19 at Tacoma Community College, a new location. Sue Butkus put up a great display showing our upcoming Event Rides. Ray Finch and David Wittenberg put together the posters including QR codes. Sue made an excellent poster on Cycle Safety; helmet, bright jersey and flashing lights.
Sadly, we learned that WSDOT’s big arched bridge over the Carbon River has been closed due to rust and buckling columns. This action closes motorized access to the Carbon Glacier entrance and the Mowich Lake entrance to Mount Rainier. You can walk or mountain bike in using the Carbon River Trail provided by Foothills Rails to Trails Coalition.
On April 27, over 400 cyclists showed up for the McClinchy Mile in Stanwood. Five TWBC riders were there, maybe more. There was excellent support and a great Taco party at the end. This year the weather was nice.
Next up is our club meeting on May 13, the PMC ride on June 1, the National Trails Day ride on June 7 and the Club meeting on June 10.
We are still looking for a Ride Captain and a Special Events Coordinator. We could even have a Trip Coordinator, a Sympathy volunteer and a New Member Greeter . If you would like to volunteer please contact me or any Officer.
Charlene and I will be going to Slovenia for a two week Bike trip put on by cccts.org. We are members of cccts.org and Bicycle Adventure Club to go on lower cost Bike trips.
Please be safe and get out on our club rides this Summer. As always thanks for being a member.
