Greetings my cycling friends and I hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We are having some cold clear weather for a few days so I hope you get out on your bike either independently or on a club ride.
We had a great Pizza Party Celebration for our 50 year anniversary. Members ranged from joining in1974 to 2024. Over forty people attended.
Last month I reported we sent $500 donations to our five like minded organizations that support our advocacy work. I continue to get thank you notes. Bikes4Kids Director Tony Chursky said "God bless you Cycling Samaritans". They supply bikes here and halfway around the world.
At the November club meeting we approved changes to our Bylaws to allow for us combining the Board and Club general meeting. Since the Pandemic we still struggle to get members to come out and socialize and bring up their concerns. We also approved the budget for 2025. Bre Osmonson from Washington State Parks gave a short talk about the program to designate scenic bikeways. See ScenicBikeways@parks.wa.gov
Last month we reported the need for a new Ride Captain, Director of Special Events and Director of Community and Government Relations. We have four Special Events that need help to put on.
Sue Butkus and I have been reviewing the club insurance provided by American Specialties and the recommendations from the League of America Bicyclists. We may seek a presentation from a League Certified Instructor to assess the need for ride leader training. We do know you should have a list of emergency contact information for your riders even though it is not required on our Waiver Forms.
You may see the first 1974 newsletter this month. It is interesting that the club was advocating for better conditions with a State Representative. They were also listing the weekly rides and planning for overnight trips.
