July President Report

We were fortunate to have some members step up for election this month as required in our Bylaws.  Everyone is on at least their second term.  I'm still the President.  Dave Wittenberg is serving a second term as Vice President.   Sue Nicholson is Secretary again.   Charlene Dorward is Treasurer again.  Harry Simmons is serving again as Ride Captain.  Ray Finch is Webmaster and filling in as Newsletter Editor too.  I'm filling in as Director of Government Relations.  We have an opening for Special Events Coordinator, Newsletter Editor and my old job Government Relations.

  • We may propose some changes to our Bylaws to consolidate some of these jobs.  If you would like a job, please let us know.
  • The Peninsula Metric Century Ride and Raincheck Ride were successfully  accomplished.   Six riders went out on the rainy day.  Twenty five riders went out on the Raincheck Ride.  It was amazing that just three of us did the 50km.  Everyone else did the tough 100km.  We provided Pizza all afternoon at Roundtable in Gig Harbor.   We received many favorable comments.
  • The Idaho Camping Trip was small but mighty.   Charlene and I camped at Harrison City Marina and enjoyed Pig in the Park on a cold windy day.  We met up with 18 Canadian people from Cross Canada Cycle Touring Society.   They were on a week long tour.  Next day we met Mary Neukom in the Marina with her camper and new Bike Friday Ebike.  We moved to CDA Campground and rode with Thomas Harrison for three days.  The Sunshine Boys showed up too.  Most of them are from Mount Tahoma Trails Association and Peninsula Wilderness Club.
  • Tour de Pierce is coming on July 13, a Saturday.   We will ride up the West Valley Highway to wave at STP riders.  You can ride 17 miles or up to 48 miles.  I will also mark a shorter kids course.   We meet at Fat Zach's Pizza to start and end with more Pizza all afternoon.
  • If you are interested,  we are putting on an overnight motel ride on the Willapa Hills Trail midweek on July 16 and 17.  Charlene and I are planning to go.  We’ll ride from Rainbow Falls State Park to South Bend on the trail and a couple of roads on the way back.
  • I will be leading an easy ride on Saturday July 27 for Pierce County Trails Day.   It starts at Campfire Coffee at 10 am and we ride the Tacoma Water Flume and Pipeline Trail.
  • On July 29 we stay in Ashford for four nights of Summer Activities including biking and hiking and trail clearing.  We have space at a nice Campground - the Sahara Creek Horse Campground.

It should be a nice summer of activities for you.

PS - Naomi Herrara is taking over the Saturday ride from Old Town Trek Shop in Old Town.
